The Theme for this Project is a Viking style banquet hall. What I learned during this process, was to start with a reference sheet and to do plenty of research on the environment before, blocking it out in unreal using BSP's. The next step was to create a modular-based interior in Maya. For this, I replicated the grid from Unreal inside Maya to make sure my objects would be true to size when imported. I modeled all of the pieces and then imported them. I had many growing pains during this process. It took me a while to FULLY understand the importance of pivot placements and making sure they are snapped right to a vertex. After importing and reimporting everything several times. I decided to scale my project down significantly. The moral of the story is to pre-plan and then plan again. Next, I created node-based textures in a Substance Painter. Created a lightmap in Unreal. From there it was just hours of plug-and-play with different lights and their settings to get the right mood. before rendering. Overall, I really enjoyed this project. Although, I still have many changes I will be making to it. I feel this project gave me a greater understanding of creating an environment in unreal. I can't wait to get started on my next one.
